SHATTERED Maybole boss Carlo Walker hit out at a key refereeing decision which he said cost his side any chance of something from their crunch Super First Division game against Cumnock.

The home side lost 3-2 but late on the referee failed to blow the whistle when Cumnock asked to make a substitute and play was allowed to continue, with the hosts scoring after home goalie Grant Weir had saved a penalty.

Walker said: "Play should have stopped as the assistant referee had his flag up to allow a substitution. But Cumnock kept playing and won a penalty after a throw-in although it was very soft and there wasn't much in the challenge and they scored from the rebound. That decision cost us any chance of taking something from the game."
