Stewart McConnell's Diary

27 Sep 2015 09:30

IT truly is the sign of a good team that they can play below their best and still chalk up a vital victory. That was the case for Ian McCall’s Ayr United on Saturday, as they came from behind to defeat Airdrieonians and move clear at the top of Ladbrokes SPFL League One. This group of players are real battlers with a real will to win, in common with their manager. But they must guard against complacency and Saturday’s home clash with Peterhead should be treated with optimism but also a touch of caution. Victory would put the team in a strong position with just one game remaining in the first quarter of the season. McCall is also hoping to attract a bumper 1,500-strong crowd to the game and with the team on the crest of a wave we could get close to that figure. ****
