TWO teenage tennis aces are celebrating major successes at the recent Special Olympics.

Congratulations to Jack Dickson (19) and Frances Smiley (18) from Prestwick Tennis and Fitness, who competed in the Special Olympics 10th National Summer Games in Sheffield.

Frances, from Prestwick won gold in the Ladies Singles in her division and Jack, who hails from Troon, won gold in the Men’s Singles in his division and together they went on to win the gold in the Mixed Doubles Event.

As well as playing tennis both Frances and Jack swim at Prestwick Pool every Tuesday night with South Ayrshire Swim Team (coaches Gary Craig and Katie Campbell). They also manage to fit in swimming competitions.

They both train at Prestwick Tennis and Fitness on Sundays with Dave Gee and Michael Groves coaching and with the Glasgow squad on a Thursday at Scotstoun in Glasgow with Leslie Whitehead coaching.

The teenagers have done a lot of fundraising to help with costs including a Millport Challenge, running 5k’s in Glasgow.

They were delighted to receive £100 South Ayrshire Sports Council and £200 from South Ayrshire Sportsability to also help with cost.

And they have been invited to Civic Reception in Glasgow in October this year following their success and have been invited to apply for the World Games in Abu Dhabi in 2019.

As well as fitting all this in both Jack and Frances are currently studying at Ayr College.
