A MAN was found in possession of £250 worth of heroin at a property in Prestwick.

Gerald Ambrose, of Limekiln Wynd, Mossblown, admitted being in possession of the controlled class A drug, at a property in Prestwick, in July this year.

The 43-year-old appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how police attended the house at 8:50am with a search warrant.

Depute Fiscal Jacob Tomnay explained: “Entry was gained through the use of a police rammit. Heroin worth £250 was found.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Colin Adam, explained: “Mr Ambrose and two other men were to use the drugs. They had collected £250 and bought the drugs together.”

Sheriff Cunninghame, said: “This is a case where custody is at the front of my mind. By the narrowest of margins you avoid this.”

Ambrose has been ordered to complete 180 hours unpaid work within six months.
