SOME of the world's best veteran ten-pin bowlers have battled it out for international honours in Ayr.

The Senior Triple Crown tournament was held at LA Bowl in Miller Road, with players from five nations competing for the prizes on offer.

Teams of both men and women descended on LA Bowl in Ayr where the competition took place from April 24-28.

The illustrious event was very well attended with many local dignitaries attending for the opening ceremony before action began.

And LA Bowl proved to be a spectacular host venue for what turned out to be a highly entertaining contest.

The tournament saw matches played across singles, doubles, triples, mixed pairs and team formats - all in a bid to earn points for each player's respective nation.

Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and Iceland all had teams in the Senior Triple Crown with winners being crowned in each individual competition.

There were also overall winners in both the gents and ladies categories, as well as the overall top nation.

Each event was competed amongst various teams from each nation with points handed out to each nation based on finishing positions.

England proved to be the team to beat, with some outstanding showings leading to wins in the men's singles, doubles, trios and team competition, as well as the mixed pairs event.

England's ladies were also dominant, winning the doubles and team events, though Ireland did enough to emerge victorious in the singles and trios events.

The results meant it was England who claimed overall victory in both the men's and ladies tournaments, as well as the combined title.

There were some strong showings from the host nation, with some teams and individuals picking up medals across the days of competition.

Unfortunately it was not enough to propel the team up the overall standings with fifth place finishes across the board.

But that did little to take the shine off a fantastic competition.
