The team behind the new Astoria cinema in Ayr have vowed not to "stand still" as improvements continue on the exterior of the building.

The facility opened to great fanfare last month, with the inside modernised from its days as the Odeon on Burns Statue Square.

Now the company behind the cinema is undertaking work on the high reaches of the building, to bring it back to the "beacon of light" over the square once again.

A spokesperson said: "So now that we have opened and restored and repaired the lower exterior, we're now going up in the Ayr!

"Looking forward to bringing the old gal back to the 'beacon of light' over the square again soon!

"We promise we won't stand still. Thank you so much for welcoming us to your wonderful town and beautiful cinema. We will, lovingly, continue to improve it for you."
