GIRVAN Early Years Centre has been praised for its ‘strong sense of community and partnership’.

An Education Scotland report said that the centre was working to improve children’s learning.

In April 2018, a team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited the centre and talked to parents, carers and worked closely with the manager and staff.

The inspectors have now given a positive appraisal of the centre with ‘very good’ to ‘good’ performances across the board.

The inspection team found the following strengths at the centre:
-There is a strong sense of community and children and families feel secure and well supported

-Children are developing their literacy and numeracy skills.
Play is also encouraged which is having a positive impact on health and wellbeing

-Partners work effectively to ensure children and families are treated equally

-Staff are focused on improving outcomes for children and families.
The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed:

-The inspectors would like staff to use national guidelines when it comes to self-evaluation

-The manager is to continue the development of a monitoring system which will ensure that high quality learning is delivered consistently.

Councillor William Grant, Lifelong Learning Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “The report is extremely positive and highlights the work undertaken by staff and partners to ensure children are well nurtured and supported while they take their very first steps on the learning ladder.

“It’s clear the well-resourced centre is delivering learning in an inclusive environment and I’m sure that parents and carers will be delighted with the report as we work to ensure every child has the best possible start in life.”
