IT has been confirmed that Homebase in Ayr will close in June.

This comes after the recent announcement of the possible closure of Carpetright and the closure of Maplins in the town.

In February it was reported that up to 40 Homebase stores, out of 250, could be closed by its Australian owner, putting up to 2,000 jobs at risk.

Wesfarmers paid £340m for the DIY chain in early 2016 and has been rebranding the stores under the Bunnings name but after a “disappointing” performance the Australian firm put Homebase under review and with expectation of losing £97m in the first half of 2018.

This has led to the Ayr branch being part of the 40 closures, officially shutting its doors on June 10.

A Homebase spokesperson, said: “We can confirm that our store in Ayr is set to close on 10 June 2018. Our priority now is to continue supporting team members.”
