VOLUNTEERS at Girvan Town House are delighted with the new signs which have been put in place outside the building.

Those who work there in the various departments, including the information centre, had been concerned they would not be recognised by passers by who did not realise what the building was used for.

But now locals and tourists are able to pop in and see what is going on in Girvan and the surrounding villages. The issue was addressed at a recent town team meeting in the Town House.

Rhona Anderson, who helps at the visitor centre, said: "Visitor numbers are going up and it looks like this is because of the signage outside. I would like maps to hand out to people who don't know their way around.

"I have been getting asked for them recently but we don't have many to spare."

Ann McGinnis added: "We don't have a very good map."

Ms Anderson continued: "It would be good if we could get a [unique notepad like] supply which you can tear off and give to people."

The information point provide leaflets on the McKechnie Institute, Knockcushan Gardens, fishing, the harbour, links tot he past, local landscape, the bandstand and many more features that form Girvan's history.

They can be found at 25 Knockcushan Street, Girvan.
