AFTER it was destroyed by a fire in 2014, Ayr pub, The Black Bull, reopened its doors to punters earlier this year.

Now the pub, which sits at 22 River Street, will allow children in every part of the premises, making it more open planned.

Capacity has also been increased from 104 - 140 people. Original plans were to increase the limit to 150 but Building Standards advised it be restricted to 140.

The issue was discussed at a leadership panel last Thursday, April 21 where applicants asked if the premise would be allowed to serve tea, coffee and breakfast in the morning to make it more family friendly.

Cllr Mary Kilpatrick said: "I just want to say they have done a wonderful job and it will make such a difference in the area, even though I have not actually been in it yet."

Cllr Ian Douglas added: "I have no problems with these proposals to provide teas, coffees and breakfast."

Cllr Peter Convery said: "I will be brief. I do not have ant problem as it could morph into something else. I think it is like an aircraft sitting on the ground. You are not planning on changing the name are you?"

The response was no.

Cllr Allan Dorans said: "I have been in since it has been refurbished and it is a great improvement to the area and a great 'old man's pub'.
