SPECULATION that Presidential Candidate Donald Trump is looking to buy Prestwick Airport from the Scottish Government is rife.

It is believed that the SNP have been negotiating options for 'troubled' Prestwick Airport with Mr Trump in an effort to return it to profit at the same time senior party members have been campaigning for Trump to be banned from the UK.

It is unclear whether or not airport employees have been made aware or are part of the alleged discussions.

A spokesperson for Prestwick Airport, said: "Glasgow Prestwick Airport has had no discussions with the Trump Organisation with regards the purchase of the airport."

But rumours have spiralled further, claiming that Officials at the loss-making airport as well as Trump's executives have explored working together to 'win' business and the 'integration' of their operations.

The nature of Prestwick's connection with the US presidential candidate is uncertain but has previously been described as an 'official partnership' and 'strategic alliance' in a press release in November 2014.

Trump has also seems to have a strong relationship with the airport which was announced in two years ago when he touched down at Prestwick in his Boeing 757 jet.

Prestwick airport was taken over by the government in 2003 for just £1. Last year it made a loss of £4.1m. A loan financed from the government increased from £4.5m in March 2014 to £10.8m 12 months later.

The senior management claims it is dedicated to taking the airport forward.
