HOTSHOT Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland is going all out for revenge on Saturday after scoring his 15th goal in 16 games.

The former Aberdeen and St Mirren target man netted in the 1-1 draw away to leaders Raith Rovers, which keeps his side in contention for the Ladbrokes League One title.

Now he is relishing the visit of an Arbroath side, who have won twice at Somerset Park this season, for a William Hill Scottish Cup Fourth Round tie.

The Red Lichties were 2-1 victors at Ayr just a week past on Saturday.

And the free-scoring striker is looking to make amends.

He said: "It was a bad ending to the last Arbroath game when we lost it. We will just be looking to win the game and progress in the Scottish Cup, which is quite important to the club."

Shankland feels the team have a big incentive to get through and added: "There's always the chance of getting a bigger name in the next round. But we have to deal with the Arbroath match as they have had two results here and we must deal with the next round. They are a stuffy team and have improved a lot this season. I have a few goals so hopefully I can add to that."

Ayr boss Ian McCall was encouraged with the result at Kirkcaldy as he had a depleted squad.

He said: "We had key players with injuries - Michael Rose was 70 per cent fit and Craig McGuffie was 50 to 60 per cent fit and was able to sit on the bench.

"We should have had a clear penalty. We were dominant in the first half. In the second half we lost a bad goal. But there some great individual perormances. As a team they were resolute and looked as if they were proud to be part of this club. Towards the end we had the best chances Declan had to pick someone out and it was a tap in and then he hit the bar, possibly he hit it too well. The away support were unbelievable and please create that at Somerset Park. It was a good day for our club."

Meanwhile goalkeeper Jack Ruddy, who joined on loan from Wolves on Friday, enjoyed his debut and said: "It was good to be in for the first game, I felt we should hae on it with loads of chances. I'm a bit disappointed we didn't take one of them. The boys made me feel really welcome."

McCall said: "We have two good goalies - Jack Ruddy and Jordan Hart and it's up to them to battle it out for the number one jersey."

Steven Bell misses the Arbroath match as he is cup tied but Rose and McGuffie should be fit for the match.
