GLASGOW CLAN 0

GUILDFORD FLAMES3

THREE unanswered goals saw Glasgow Clan fall to Guildford Flames in a 3-0 shutout defeat in their only game of the weekend on Saturday at Braehead.

With Cardiff Devils coming in Challenge Cup action on Wednesday, Pete Russell was keen to fine tune his men, but it wasn't to be in a frustrating night for the Clan.

Scott Tanski had an early chance when his backhanded effort hit the side netting,

The hosts went close again when former Clan forward Ben Davies was robbed of possession right out the Guildford defensive zone. This allowed a chance from Josh Gratton, who fired into the midriff of visiting goalie Travis Fullerton.

The best opportunity came from Matt Beca, who almost successfully finished off a solo opportunity as he dragged in from the right, but a deflection thwarted his hopes.

An Evan Ritt chance from in front of the crease looked to have missed until a video review showed it to be a goal, giving the visitors an early second period lead.

Fullerton denied what could have been a quick equaliser as Tanski set up Brendan Connolly, arriving late in the middle, with the Guildford netminder making a timely stop. But the Flames soon found themselves two-up when Jamie Crooks set up Calle Ackered, who fired in from the slot.

Ian Watters almost added a third, which was stopped low by Joel Rumpel in the home goal as they look to open a significant lead.

Clan almost got on the scoresheet themselves when Jack Musil set up Mac Howlett, but again, Fullerton was in the right spot to make the block.

The home side pulled Rumpel in the final minutes in an attempt to get something, but Ian Watters' empty net secured the result for Flames, their second shutout against Glasgow this season.
