TROON FC 2004's 4

DEAN THISTLE 0

HAVING started the season with a positive result, Troon were going into this match not taking anything for granted. However they were pretty confident in themselves.

The game was played on a drizzly morning at Hosiery Park.

The first half started and almost immediately Troon were attacking the Dean goal, however not making much of the chances created. Troon's midfield battling hard to keep the ball in Dean’s half and were controlling the game.

Dean, however managed a few good chances but couldn’t make anything of them as Troon’s defence held firm and new goalkeeper David McCormack made some great saves.

A third of the way through the first half, Troon opened the scoring with superb movement from the midfield and the ball landed at the feet of Troon striker Connor McGowan, who netted.

It was not long after that another goal was scored where Troon managed to get the ball to the feet of Troon striker Billy Kirkwood who took a superb shot and found the back of Dean’s net again.

The second half started with some substitutions for Troon, however this did not impact on the way Troon were playing. Troon continued the same way they started the match but this time there was much more of a battle from Dean. Some great football was being played by both sides, but Troon scored again when the ball landed at the feet of striker Brandon Gillies and he shot home.

Dean continued battling hard and had a few good shots of their own forcing Troon’s keeper David McCormack to make some superb saves to keep the ball.

Late on, Troon bagged their fourth goal through Connor McGowan, who netted his second.

Dean continued attacking but couldn't make anything of it.

Troon coach Paul McDougal said: "It was another good result from the lads, however it is early in the season and there are other teams still to play. We don’t take anything for granted, but I was pleased how the lads performed today with their attitude and the way they played."

Troon player Brandon Gillies was deservedly awarded Troon’s man of the match.
