STRUGGLING Ayr are anchored to bottom spot in the Western Premier Division after crashing to a heavy defeat against league leaders Ferguslie.

League leaders Ferguslie travelled to Ayr on Saturday and continued on their winning ways as they recorded a 154-run victory.

Batting first, they posted an impressive 281-6 with batsmen Preston-Jones (78) and Moses (59) continuing their recent good run of form. There were two wickets each for Kenroy Peters and Shujja Khan. In contrast the Ayr batsmen struggled against some tight bowling from the visitors and were bowled out for 127 with only Scott McElnea (28) having an impact on the Ferguslie bowling.

The Cambusdoon side have lost nine out of their 11 games.

In Paisley the Meikelriggs XI made it a double for Ferguslie as they recorded a comfortable victory against the Cambusdoon XI, winning by 172 runs. The home team batted first posting 253-8 helped by an unbeaten ninth wicket partnership between English (42no) and Tahir (47no). Harry Boyd was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-36 and there were also two wickets each for Nari and Chubb Bhandari. After a promising start the Cambusdoon XI fell apart with only Robbie Henderson (36) making a score of any note as they were bowled out for 81.

This weekend sees Ayr travel to Glasgow to take on West of Scotland in the Western Union and on Wednesday night they take on Uddingston in the McCulloch Cup semi-final. The Cambusdoon XI are at home to Partick in the Reserve League while the Development XI are at home to Victoria n the Sunday League.
