BRAEHEAD CLAN 5

SHEFFIELD STEELERS 2

LATE goals from Craig Peacock and Adam Brace made sure of two big points for Clan as they swept aside Steelers at Braehead Arena.

After a run of four games without victory, Braehead hosted the Steelers looking to hold on to that eighth spot in the standings and they managed to do it in style.

Paul Thompson’s side went close in the opening period when Robert Dowd, back in their team after a spell of injury, hit the post for the best chance.

However, both sides went in goalless, but you sensed with the chances there had been, something was coming.

Ryan Nie pulled off a football-style save early in the second period when a slapshot effort looked destined for the top corner, but the goalie dived to meet it and preserved the net.

The opening goal finally came just after the halfway point when a low Landon Oslanski shot found its way past Ervins Mustukovs in the Steelers goal and Clan were in front.

Brendan Brooks added a second shortly after as he cleaned up at the net after a short pass from Matt Haywood and the home side were celebrating again.

The deficit was halved shortly after as Miika Franssila was set up by his captain Jonathan Phillips and Clan’s rearguard was finally breached.

Braehead restored the two-goal lead early in the third with a rocket of a shot from Craig Cescon.

But Eric Neiley hit back within a minute for Steelers to get to within one and make things a little tense as the final period went on

Another zinger of a shot from Oslanski was denied by an excellent Mustukovs save, but the tension was eased as Peacock rounded the Steelers goalie to add a fourth.

Then an empty net finish from Brace, helped with a Nie assist rounded things off nicely for John Tripp and his team on a good night for Braehead.
