Ayrshire Schools Under-18 League Cup Final

QUEEN MARGARET ACADEMY 1

MARR COLLEGE 5

FIVE-star Marr overpowered their South Ayrshire rivals to lift the trophy for the second time in three years.

Birthday boy Jamie Martin celebrated his 18th with a double as Marr strolled to victory in the sunshine.

The Troon side dominated proceedings right from the off and were worthy winners.

They carved out an opening in eight minutes when Scott Rennix shot narrowly wide from 12 yards. Just four minutes later the Troon side were ahead, when Callum Ogston blasted a 25-yard shot into the postage stamp.

A thunderous drive from Martin was deflected wide by the Queen Margaret Academy defence in 16 minutes. A great chance came QMA's way two minutes later as Travis Smith headed inches wide from 12 yards.

QMA goalie Jordan McMahon made a superb save to keep out a 25-yard rocket from Cammy Ross in 34 minutes.

In 55 minutes a Craig Davidson free-kick from the edge of the box was well saved by Craig Young.

The lead was doubled in 58 minutes when Craig Brown sent a strong shot into the top corner of the net. Then four minutes later, Ross shot home from just outside the box to make it 3-0.

QMA came close in 80 minutes, when Aidan McQuillan sent a 25-yard free-kick over the bar. Two minutes later Marr further increased their advantage when Martin shot home from 12 yards. The same player scored again two minutes later.

Right on full-time QMA bagged a consolation when Davidson netted from the penalty spot.
