The family of a Prestwick woman cancelled her 90th birthday party for 50 guests – but a piper saved the day.

Isobel Bennie, of Bellevue Crescent, had her special day called-off due the COVID-19 pandemic.

But her son, Willie, revealed piper Donald Currie of Prestwick came to the rescue and surprised her by turning up outside her house and playing a selection of tunes including Happy Birthday, I Love a Lassie and Highland Cathedral.

Willie said: “Mum was out dancing in the garden path and the neighbours were all entertained as well.

“Donald really made her day and she certainly won’t forget her 90th.”

Isobel retired to Prestwick with her late husband John in 1990. She celebrated her special day on April 26.
