A GIFTED Ayr musician who has played in venues around the globe will be heard in cinemas when a much-anticipated movie is finally released.

Former Belmont Academy student Keith McNicoll, principal bass trombone with the Royal Opera House, helped play the soundtrack music for blockbuster Marvel movie, Black Widow.

The film, starring Scarlett Johansson had been due for release on May 1, but has been delayed due to the coronavirus.

Keith enjoyed the experience but admitted it has been gruelling.

He said: “We were recording fight scenes for the movie so it was really energetic and at the end I felt like I had done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson,

“The music was good and written by a Scottish composer, Lorna Balfe.”

The former player with Glasgow’s BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia in London has been involved in soundtracks for other movies including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mission Impossible and Wallace and Gromit.

He has performed regularly at the Royal Opera House with some of their productions being streamed live into cinemas.

The orchestra are currently out of action owing to the coronavirus crisis but hope to return when safe.
