THE future of an Ayr organisation which provides meals to those in need has been put in “jeopardy”, after South Ayrshire Council withdrew vital support.

The 10:10 Trust had been receiving support from the council amid the coronavirus pandemic with additional staff and transport. However, the council now say they need to deploy staff elsewhere.

Dylan Harper, CEO of the Trust, said: “I got a phone call on Thursday saying our support had been withdrawn and the way the situation has unfolded has been disgusting and that is not a word I would use lightly.

“We had delivered 20,000 food packages in South Ayrshire in recent weeks and we could not have done that without the support of the council. It’s a real kick in the teeth. The withdrawal of this key support will jeopardise the future operation of the service we provide, most likely to the point of closure.”

But a council spokesperson said: “The staff who are currently supporting the Trust all have PVG certificates and have additional skills which we need to deploy elsewhere to maintain vital services.

“We have been advised that 619 volunteers from South Ayrshire have registered with Volunteer Scotland and 455 with the British Red Cross. This means that we will be able to provide additional volunteers to support the 10:10 Trust and allow our staff to return to other priority areas of work.”
