AN ANIMAL welfare charity has launched a desperate appeal for online donations for the animals in its care.

The Scottish SPCA is feeling the effects of coronavirus, which has left stock low, including food for kittens.

Due to the current lockdown, staff have created an Amazon wishlist, where items can be purchased by kind donors and sent to the Ayr centre.

The animal welfare charity had to close all nine of its animal rescue and rehoming centres to the public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre assistant manager Lynda Hourston said: “This is a very difficult time for us.

“Our helpline is still operating and our rescue officers and inspectors are still on the ground rescuing injured and abused animals across Scotland.

“Therefore, we will still have animals coming in with none being rehomed at this time.

“It can be a struggle to keep up with hungry mouths to feed.”
