POLICE are appealing for witnesses for what is described as a 'very concerning' incident after the derelict Corran Inn in Saltcoats was set on fire last night. 

The Herald reported last night that firefighters were in attendance at the blaze at the building on Jacks Road, which has been empty for some time. 

Now police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward. 

Inspector Alison Wilson of North Ayrshire Locality Policing Team said: "Enquiries are ongoing into this incident which is very concerning within the local area. I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, suspicious activity or has any information to come forward."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.55pm on Tuesday, February 4 to reports of a building on fire on High Road, Saltcoats. Three fire appliances were mobilised to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire within a disused former restaurant building. There were no casualties. Crews left at 10.24pm."
