North Ayrshire Council has reached agreement to finally buy Stevenston’s town centre car park.

The Council confirmed this week that a deal has been reached with owners Europe and Jersey Estates Ltd for purchase of the New Street facility for an undisclosed amount.

North Ayrshire Council have been speaking to the owners since last year to try to reach an agreement which would see the privately-owned car park come into public ownership.

Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economy, said: “We’re delighted that we have reached agreement.

“There has been a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of the car park so it is good for the residents and businesses in Stevenston town centre that the issue has been settled.”

North Ayrshire Council had sought a Compulsory Purchase Order for the car park however this process has been set aside now that an amicable agreement has been reached with the owner after it was postponed in late December.

It is expected the car park will be fully opened in the very near future.
