STREETS in Saltcoats were in lockdown this evening after a 'suspicious package' was discovered in Chapelwell Street.
Police confirmed that they were called to attend the incident tonight (Thursday).
Officers swooped to the scene along with firefighters but it is believed that the package was ultimately not a danger to the public.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a suspicious package at a Royal Mail delivery office in Chapelwell Street, Saltcoats, around 5.45pm on Thursday 17 October 2019.
"Officers attended and the package was found to be non-suspicious."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they were in attendance with police colleagues.
Road closures are in place as police deal with the incident.
