A MAN was robbed by knife-weilding thieves at his home in Ayr where one was disguised as a police officer.

The two male suspects stole the 37-year-old victim's mobile phone after entering his property in Somerset Gardens at around 8.30pm last night, October 2.

One of the men was in possession of a knife while another was disguised as a police offer to gain initial entry.

The first man was dressed in police uniform, in his early 30s, around 5ft 10, of a stocky build, wearing a black t-shirt under a police vest with glasses and a Scottish accent.

The second suspect, in possession of a knife, is described as 5ft 7, in his mid-20s with short black hair, a moustache and wearing a black hoodie with an English accent.

A third man there is described as being smaller, around 5ft of slim build, 40 years of age, bald, having a wrinkly face with a number of teeth missing. He was wearing a black hoodie with a black jacket on top and had a Scottish accent.

Police in South Ayrshire are appealing for witnesses following the reported incident.

Detective Sergeant Jane Hogg, of Ayrshire CID said: “I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise to members of the public to be extremely cautious when opening your door if you are not expecting any visitors, even those who purport to be police officers.

“Fortunately, no one has been seriously injured as a result of this incident.

“We are encouraging anyone who may have seen any of the three men that fit this description in or around the area at the time of the incident to get in contact.

“We are also appealing for anyone that may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the surrounding streets.”
