FIREFIGHTERS tackled an underground fire in Saltcoats last night after reports of an 'explosion'.
Police, the fire service and Scottish Power were called after the reports of the incident at the bottom of Hamilton Street.
Thankfully nobody was injured as a result but the road had to be closed for a period of time whilst Scottish Power worked to make the area safe alongside emergency services.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 7.15pm on Thursday, September 19 to reports of a fire in Hamilton Street, Saltcoats.
“Operations Control mobilised two fire engines near to Windmill Centre Amusements, where crews were met by a fire in an underground telecommunications manhole.
“Firefighters worked with Scottish Power to make the area safe.
“There were no casualties.”
Police confirmed that they were asked to attend to help with traffic management.
