RETAIL giant Home Bargains will open its doors in Ayr
The national chain got the go-ahead to sell alcohol at a new Heathfield Retail Park store during a South Ayrshire Council Licensing Board this morning.
The new shop, which will open in November, will create 50 to 60 jobs and will be housed inside the old Homebase premises.
Home Bargains agent Mr Taylor asked councillors for permission to sell booze.
Mr Taylor said: “It is a limited range of alcohol, largely beers and wines.”
He added: “Alcohol is a very small part of what we do.”
Mr Taylor said the company want customers to be able to do their entire shop in the store without having to go elsewhere. Councillors agreed the alcohol licence. The store has received permission to sell booze between 10am to 10pm. The alcohol display area will measure 37.44 square metres.
Discount store Home Bargains sells budget toys, household and beauty and gardening products.
They have 60 shops in Scotland.
Iceland brand The Food Warehouse is also due to open in the empty Homebase unit. The Food Warehouse offers a bigger grocery choice than Iceland as well as bulk buys.
It has been compared to a cash and carry without the need for membership.
