TRIBUTES were paid to the Bard when Ayr Burns Club held their annual commemoration of the death of Robert Burns.

The event was held to mark the anniversary of the passing of the poet on July 21, 1796.

A service was hosted by Ayr Auld Kirk, and conducted by the Rev David, who welcomed Club President Robbie McMahon, and James Waite, President of the Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs, with Burns Club members to join his congregation in this special service, and afterwards to a reception in the Kirk Halls.

From the Auld Kirk, the gathering continued by laying floral tributes in a small ceremony at Burns Statue Square.

President Dr. Robbie Mc Mahon welcomed representatives from the Burns world, and invited Deputy Provost Mr William Grant of South Ayrshire Council to lay the floral tribute on behalf of the people of Ayr.

That was followed by Mr Brian Goldie, Senior Vice-President of the Robert Burns World Federation, Mr. Marc Sherland , Junior Vice-President of the Robert Burns World Federation, who also represented the Glasgow Haggis Club.

Joining them were other members of South Ayrshire Council, who diligently follow this tribute each year, and Presidents and representatives of the many Ayrshire Burns Clubs.

A tribute was laid by Past President, Mrs Kathleen Davey, on behalf of General Rag Mehta of the Indian Army, and great admirer of our Bard ’s works and what he stands for.
