THE Maybole bypass is expected to be completed by the summer of 2021, according to new guidance issued to residents this week.

The information came in a letter issued by Wills Bros Civil Engineering, who are currently undertaking the 3.1mile stretch of road after being awarded the contract buy Transport Scotland in April 2019.

Wills Bros have commenced project works to construct 5.2km (3.1miles) of new single carriageway to the northwest of Maybole, which will include opportunities for overtaking, and new roundabouts at the tie-ins to the existing A77 at Broomknowes and Smithson, and at B7023 Culzean Road.

There will be an underpass at Broomknowes Roundabout and three principal structures at the following locations:

• Gardenrose Path (overbridge)

• Kirklandhill Path (overbridge)

• B7024 Alloway Road (underbridge)

Climbing lanes will also be provided on the following sections of alignment:

• A northbound climbing lane from the south roundabout, through to the B7023 Culzean Road roundabout

• A southbound climbing lane commencing north of Alloway Road

Upon completion, the Maybole Bypass will separate local traffic from those travelling longer distances, including to Cairnryan.

This aims to provide better journey time reliability for road users as well as improved safety and environmental benefits for the local community.

The letter stated: “Wills Bros will strive to ensure that there is as little disruption or inconvenience caused as possible during the construction phase and thank you in advance for your co-operation and understanding.£
