A RUNNING event for Northwich youngsters has celebrated its third birthday.

Northwich Junior Parkrun turned three in the same weekend as Northwich Parkrun celebrated its first anniversary and 10,000th finisher.

Almost 50 children crossed the line at Vickersway Park on Mother’s Day, with one youngster, Adam Anderson, completing his 100th 2km dash.

Launched in 2016, the parkrun takes place at 9am each Sunday and caters for runners aged from four to 14.

Run volunteer Jan Whalley, who is also a member of Northwich Running Club, said: “It’s a great way to get children out in the fresh air and keeping fit and healthy.

“It’s not a competitive event, it’s more about taking part. We always say that it’s a run, not a race, although if they want to push themselves, they are given a time so they can try and match or beat their personal best.”

She added: “The parkrun is run by a wonderful band of volunteers, but we are always on the lookout for extra help.”
