A NEW flag designed by two Saltcoats girls is now flying over the twelfth hole at Dundonald Links Golf Course.

Judges from the Year of Young People Panel and the Active Schools team were impressed by the design of Skye Graham and Mia Lynch of St Anthony’s Primary in Saltcoats, and their flag to fly until the end of the year.

In 2018, Dundonald Links – in partnership with the council’s Active Schools team – offered an exciting opportunity for every young person aged seven to 11 in North Ayrshire to actively participate in golf, with over 700 primary school pupils receiving two hours’ free coaching from local golf pros.

Those attending were asked to design a flag based on the Year of Young People legacy themes of culture, education, enterprise and regeneration, equality and discrimination, participation, and health and well-being.

Councillor Shaun MacAulay, North Ayrshire’s Youth Champion, said: “Year of Young People celebrated the talents and achievements of young people in North Ayrshire and across the country, giving them a stronger voice in society and creating new opportunities for them to shine.

“It is important that the hard work carried out leaves a lasting legacy, and having this flag flying at Dundonald Links will act as a constant reminder and tribute.”
