Tributes have poured in for a homeless woman who was found dead in a tent in Gallowgate.

Emergency services were called to Watson Street at around 9am on Thursday morning following reports that a body had been discovered.

Following the discovery, McKinnons Bar and Lounge, issued a plea on social media for help identifying the woman.

Glasgow Times:

In a desperate Facebook post the pub said: "Young homeless girl found dead... After living rough in a little tent in Watson street off the gallowgate ..I'm soo sad this is someone's daughter mother sister. Yet another victim of our messed up society."

The pub described her as polite and well mannered with family somewhere whose "worst fear has happened".

Messages of condolence have since flooded the pub's post with some people condemning the issue of homelessness in the city.

One member of the public said : "So sad to hear this news and my thoughts go to the girls family and loved ones as said before she is someones daughter, sis, aunt, or even a mum herself, no one should have to die under these circumstances, so sad."

Another added: "All those empty buildings, going to waste when I am sure the council could put in some sort of heat and let these poor people have a roof over there heads this winter. God Rest the poor soul as people have said she was someone’s child."

Police Scotland confirmed that a body had been discovered.

A spokeswoman for the Force said: " Around 11:40am on Thursday morning officers attended an incident following reports that a body had been found.

"A post mortem will be carried out in due course."

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
