GIRVAN celebrates 60 years of its local camera club this week as members will meet in the New Hall for the special event.
The event, tonight, will host various displays and a buffet for all to enjoy the diamond celebration.
From the initial meeting, the club got up and running on a weekly basis and has never deviated far from the founders' ideas. It is thought no adults attending that first meeting are now alive, but they would all be very proud to know that they had started a club which has operated very successfully down the decades.
60 years ago, the limiting factor, besides the cost of film, was the equipment, whereas today, the sophisticated camera has so many multiple facilities that most photographers seldom get round to testing its limits. A standing joke in the club is, 'Set the camera on automatic'. Why? 'Because the wee man from Japan knows best'!
