GIRVAN’S local Nestlé factory welcomed Bill Grant MP to its production lines last week to see first-hand the expertise required to produce key ingredients for the nation’s favourite sweet treats.

The MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock toured the Girvan factory and found out its role in the Nestlé supply chain. Nestlé UK Head of Technical for Confectionery, Richard Martin and Head of Public Affairs, Katherine Clifford met with Mr Grant to explain the company’s links with a local college as well as how they support local dairy farmers.

Bill Grant MP Said: “I had a very enjoyable and informative visit to Nestlé Girvan. It is clear that the Girvan plant is a key player in the success of Nestlé UK and Ireland by providing a high quality ingredient for its UK confectionery.

“Quality ingredients are embedded in Nestlé products and around 65 dairy farms in Ayrshire can be proud of the high quality milk supplied to Nestlé at Girvan.”

Richard Martin said: “It was our pleasure to show Bill Grant MP around our factory. At Girvan we make milk chocolate crumb, a key ingredient in the production of the chocolate that Nestlé uses for famous brands like Quality Street, KitKat and Aero in the UK and Ireland.

“I was proud to tell Mr Grant how all our milk comes from local farmers, how easy access to this high quality ingredient first attracted our business to this rural location back in the 1970s, and how its sustainable development has allowed us to remain and prosper together.”
