FORMER Silencers singer JJ Gilmour is bound for Ayr in November.

Freckfest, the voluntary group of music enthusiasts from Irvine will bring the singer to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway on Saturday, November 24.

JJ, known as Jinky, has a musical CV that belies belief.

He's toured with The Pretenders, made friends with Prince Charles, promoted himself around North America with actor turned singer turned actor again Steven Segal and had one of his tracks adopted by Medicines Sans Frontiers as their official anthem. Not your average songwriter, it’s fair to say.

JJ Gilmour’s songs are well-crafted pop songs in the vein of Squeeze and their ilk - story songs which should capture the imagination.

His grasp of melody is brilliant - McCartneyesque, even. He has the ability to make you laugh and cry within the same song, a gift that every songwriter would sell their granny for. Frustratingly, in another time and place Jinky would be a massively successful songwriter.

One of music’s best-kept secrets, once heard, JJ Gilmour is never forgotten. Funny and engaging, Jinky’s shows are a beautiful blend of heartbreaking songs and outrageous patter.

His between-songs stories are the stuff of legend and worth the price of admission alone.

Come and find out for yourself when JJ Gilmour plays the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum on November 24. Tickets are on sale via seetickets.com.
