Maidens Primary school dug deep to help a local foodbank collection recently, gathering a generous offering to help people in Girvan.

The pupils donated over 200 products for the Girvan Foodbank as part of their Harvest Food Collection appeal.

A teacher at Maidens primary, Kim Emmerson said: “The school is working towards its UNICEF Silver Rights Respecting Schools award and the collection was to highlight Article 24 (which was our focus article of the month) of the United Nation Convention of the Rights of the Child which states that every child has the right ‘to safe drinking water, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help them stay healthy’.

“The school only has 64 pupils in total and managed to collect over 200 items of food.”

Pupils at Maidens primary had speakers from South Ayrshire Foodbank visit the school to tell them about the appeal and where the food would go to, as well as explain who would benefit. The children responded brilliantly.
