THE first meeting of Girvan and District Society will take place in the McKechnie Institute, Dalrymple Street, Girvan on Thursday, October 25 at 7.30pm.
Speaker for the evening will be Peter Henderson who will talk about the Island of Saint Helena. Being one of the most remote places on Earth it was there that the British imprisoned Napoleon.
The Portuguese formed no permanent settlement at this time and eventually it was to become a stopover for ships sailing between Europe, South Africa and the East Indies.
Peter’s subjects will include the “Real Robinson Crusoe,” the slave trade, the island’s people, culture and industries.
The society welcomes you along for an entertaining evening.
Entrance: Members £1, non-members £2. This includes a cup of tea and a biscuit.
