From Mrs Susan Young, Cambridge:

I HAVE been visiting the beautiful Isle of Wight for several years now, and have just returned home from another enjoyable holiday there.

The weather was perfect and I spent many happy hours revisiting my favourite haunts and exploring new places. It has saddened me to see the number of uncared for, derelict buildings on the Island.

One in particular stays in my mind, the former public house, The Countryman, Limerstone.

I understand it is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is in full view of everyone passing to and from Brighstone, a special village, which is in a conservation area. How has this been allowed to happen in an area as precious as this? The residents of Brighstone are, I understand, justifiably very upset and annoyed this building has deteriorated to this extent and nothing has been done about it.
