Join the Isle of Wight Ramblers for a free, gentle stroll on Sunday, October 7, starting at 10.30am.

The Brading is approximately 6.4 miles.

Start: Coach Lane Brading — there is on-street parking, or use the nearby car park (fee payable).

Access information: Many stiles replaced with gates. Can be quite muddy in parts after wet weather. Many of the paths have recently been upgraded.

Refreshments: The Tollgate cafe is a popular stop at Bembridge. Also pubs en route.

Toilets: Public toilets at Bembridge opposite the Tollgate café. Also in Station Road at St Helens Green.

Route: From Coach Lane (1), cross the main road into Vicarage Lane. Follow a track past the football ground and continue on a woodland path to a gate.

Carefully cross a level crossing into a large field (2). This is North Marsh, part of the RSPB reserve.

Go half left across the field to find a gate and wooden bridge leading into scrubland. Continue ahead and then bear right of the scrubland to find a wooden bridge and gate. Here go left by shallow lagoons and cross an arched bridge.

Continue to a hedge gap with a footpath sign. Go half left across the next field on B4. Reach a gate by a distant white house (3).

Follow a track and turn right onto a permissive path parallel with the road. Continue to a three-gabled house at a track.

Continue very carefully along the edge of the main road which soon has a walkway. Continue uphill and turn right down Station Road. Pass Latimer Road by a large anchor and continue along Embankment Road. At Bembridge Marina and apartments, cross the main road onto a track (4). Continue on this permissive path through a nature reserve with lagoons on both sides of the path.

At a crossing track by a gate, go left and immediately right by more lagoons. The path swings left and up into a carpark by house boats. Turn right onto the walkway and continue to the Tollgate Cafe and Palmer memorial (5).

Go along Station Road by the Pilot Boat pub. This leads onto a track BB19 through the reserve. At the reserve sign, go left uphill on BB3. This emerges onto the High Street.

Go right and follow the road to a bend at Mill Road. Continue on the track towards the windmill (6).

Just before the windmill go right on BB20 to a field gate. Cross the field to a stile and go left downhill to another stile. Follow BB20 through a number of Ramblers gates, crossing the edge of Bembridge Airport. At a path junction, go right on BB23 (7) towards Brading. Follow the main path across two sluices and along an embankment to a gate at Quay Lane (8). Follow Quay lane into Brading by the church. Turn right to return to Coach Lane.
