ON Sunday, May 6 1668 King Charles 11 granted a Charter confirming the right to form the village of Girvan into a Burgh.
To mark the 350th Anniversary Girvan 1668 held a weekend of celebration and thanksgiving including the Girvan Folk Festival, a Songs of Praise Evening at the North Parish Church, RNLI naming event, May Market at the Town House and an re-enactment event at Stumpy Tower.
Councillor Brian McGinley, said: “The Council is always keen to work with communities to celebrate our roots and keep our traditions alive.
“Girvan 1668 promises to be a landmark event with the organisers showing what can be achieved when we pull together for a common purpose. I would encourage people to visit the website to find out what’s happening or to get involved.”
Each month of this year has a range of activities on offer and more information can be gained from the website www.girvan1668.co.uk
