A MAN has been jailed for grabbing his partner’s throat and slapping her across the face.

Shaun Qua, of Park Road in Girvan appeared in the dock from custody, on Wednesday at Ayr Sheriff Court in front of Sheriff Mhari MacTaggart in relation to the offence on April 10.

Depute Fiscal, Jason Bell, explained: “The accused grabbed the complainer by the neck and slapped her to the face, causing her to fall to the ground where she received a cut on her hand due to broken glass on the floor.

“She sent a text message to her friend to contact the police. The accused was taken into custody and was cautioned and charged.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Glen Davis, said: “Blows had been exchanged between one another.”

Sheriff MacTaggart addressed the accused and concluded: “The difficulty is your record, which is peppered with violence. 

Qua got 28 weeks in jail.
