STRAITON villagers have won yet another fight for their community after mail bosses revealed they couldn"t provide a their promised mobile post office.

Residents are determined to keep their area strong after having just saved their community shop by working together.

In July last year villagers joined the Advertiser Series" campaign to try and secure 11 post office branches across South Ayrshire.

Straiton was sadly axed though post office bosses promised to provide a mobile post van.

But it was then revealed the Royal Mail had run into difficulties with the provision of post office services in Straiton. The 'technical problems' relate to the 'lack of mobile signal for the network' that the post office uses in the village.

However the newly saved shop has now agreed to host a posat office srevice service for the village.

Resident and the Co-operative shop volunteer Philippa Baird said: 'At the initial public consultation meeting they failed to heed what was being said by those who live here about the lack of internet broadband provision. So, they made their plans and then came out to timetable and finalise the mobile service. They then realised that they couldn"t just drive up and "plug in" - a problem they must have encountered in other rural areas whilst doing this major exercise.

'They then approached us in the Co-operative to ask if we would be happy for them to provide a hosted service from the shop." For the full story see this week's paper - on sale now!
