Elite Ice Hockey League - BRAEHEAD CLAN 4 HULL STINGRAYS 5

BRAEHEAD ice was once again the destination for South Ayrshire's Clan fans for their weekend game against Hull Stingrays.

With four consecutive wins behind them the Braehead boys were hoping to continue their recent form and add another to the list. Sadly for them, they felt the sharp end of the Stingrays' tail in what was a nail biting, edge-of-the-seat piece of hockey action.

Stingrays won this mid table battle and now move to within six points of Clan but with a massive six games in hand. This result will be a major boost to Stingrays as they aim to take over that sixth spot in the standings.

A strong start from the visitors saw them go ahead after only 2.30 when Jereme Tendler scored from an acute angle but the home side, who had the better of the first period, deservedly levelled at 14.40 after Jordan Krestanovich scored from close in.

The second period was more even and it was Stingrays ahead again at 26.19 when Tendler broke clear to handsomely beat Perras in the home net on a shorthanded play but equality was restored at 33.42 when Ryan Campbell forced in from the edge of the crease.

Into the third period and the only powerplay strike of the night had Stingrays ahead for a third time with player/coach Sylvain Cloutier all alone in front to score at 41.23. Stingrays then doubled their lead at 45.10 as a sliding Andrew Coburn netted but Clan pulled one back only 31 seconds later as Campbell hit his second. At 48.04 the visitors were again two ahead when Trevor Read was the trailer on a break to score but Clan continued to hit back and at 52.48 Dominic Noel shot home from close to make it a one-goal game once more.

Close things at either end after that, as the game continued wide open but Stingrays held on and claimed both points to travel hoe with that important win.

Period Scores: 1-1, 1-1, 2-3

Fans were treated to a party after the game at the official Clan Clubhouse at SNO!bar, Xscape. A quiz evening was held to celebrate the start of the second half of the season, to toast to 2011 and to give all fans, old and new, to meet all of the team

Braehead Clan's next game is this coming Saturday, January 15 as Newcastle Vipers head to Braehead ice. Tickets are available inline via Ticketmaster, by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0844 499 1700 or at the door on game night. Face-off is at 7pm and doors open at 6pm.
