GIRVAN 3

KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY 3

GUTSY Girvan gave their hopes of survival a boost with a hard-earned point at home to high-flying Rob Roy.

Now they will be hoping to build on this result as they aim to secure their status in the revamped top flight next season.

The first chance of the match came the way of the visitors in 10 minutes when a free header at the back post glanced narrowly wide of target.

Two minutes later disaster struck when a long ball from the visiting goalie was latched on to by Carroll who neatly lobbed the advancing keeper Scott Johnson to put ball into empty net.

Then in 27 minutes Girvan forged a chance when a Tony Balfour corner-kick was headed narrowly wide by Craig Reid.

Twelve minutes later, Girvan had the ball in the net but the referee had blown for an earlier infringement. At the other end in 42 minutes there was a lucky escape for the hosts when a volley from Carroll 22 yards out saw the ball come back of the bar with Johnston well beaten.

The home side's patience paid off a minute from half-time when a long kick out from Johnston found Patterson, who found the net with his shot to make it 1-1.

Five minutes after the break the hosts were ahead when Paul Cameron corner picked out Darren Mitchell at the back post and he bulleted home a header.

Then in 70 minutes it was all-square when a cross from the right found Watt at the back post and he netted with a header.

In 77 minutes the visitors regained the lead when Watt again scored at the back post.

However a minute from time a long throw-in from Reid found the head of Danny Cunningham, who looped his header into the top corner
