POLLOK 2

GIRVAN 2

SPIRITED Girvan returned from Newlandsfield Park with a creditable draw to maintain their unbeaten run in their debut season in the Premier Division.

The visitors started brightly and almost snatched a goal in the second minute when Michael Reilly knocked the ball down to Robert Paterson but his shot was turned away for a corner.

Pollok took the lead in the seventh minute a cross from the right was netted at the back post.

Midway through the half Girvan produced some fine midfield play but Robert Paterson headed his effort straight at the keeper. Paterson was tripped by a home player as he went through and the culprit was ordered off. The resultant free-kick from Paul Camerons free kick hit the wall and was cleared. Paterson nicked a ball off a defender but his lob was pushed over the top for a corner.

Girvan drew level in 48 minutes when Paterson burst into the box and crossed to Reilly who netted.

Despite having 10 men, Pollok dominated the game for a spell but the Girvan defence coped with all their attacks.

Girvan got back into the match and in 70 minutes the Pollok goalie denied Paterson a goal with a fine save. Reilly then found space in the box but was denied by another save by the Pollok keeper.

It was all Girvan at this stage and in 73 minutes a Paul Cameron cross was headed over the bar by Reilly.

Two minutes later the big striker got his second goal when Robert Paterson crossed to the back post and the ball was turned into the net.

The lead however only lasted a minute a Pollok forward beat Steven Auld for pace and knocked the ball past Scott Johnston.
