Ardagh Glass League Cup
TROON 3
ANNBANK UNITED 1
DETERMINED Troon had to come from behind to subdue a much-improved Annbank United side at Portland Park on Saturday.
The visitors got off to a great start by taking the lead in eight minutes when Maclean Simpson took advantage of a defensive mix-up to knock the ball home.
At the other end in 18 minutes Jack Paterson was unlucky with a shot from distance, which dropped just beside goalkeeper Marc Fisher's post.
Then in 36 minutes McLean forced a good save from Fisher after a Mark Curragh knock-on. Two minutes after the break, Annbank were reduced to 10 men when Jamie Ballantyne was sent off for a last-man challenge on Mark Curragh.
In 67 minutes it was all-square when Graeme Barbour rifled home after Fisher had saved a Curragh shot.
Then in 78 minutes, great work from Ross McCrea saw his shot deflected into the far corner of the net to put the hosts in front for the first time.
Six minute from time Curragh sent a lovely header home to seal victory.
In the final minute, a phenomenal double save from Fisher denied Mark Curragh and James Lamont.
