By Matt Speirs

GIRVAN's promotion hopes suffered a knock at windswept Hamilton Park where they fell to a surprising defeat against Glencairn.

It was all Girvan early on and they could have taken the lead in nine minutes but Jack McDowall's shot across the face of goal drifted wide of the far post.

Six minutes later Scott Dinwoodie had a shot from twenty five yards saved by the keeper.

Glencairn came more into the match and went ahead in 25 minutes when the Girvan defence failed to clear the ball and Hall netted.

Five minutes later Glencairn had another chance but a ball across the face of goal found no takers.

The lead was doubled in 37 minutes when Scott Johnston did well to save but the ball fell to McNab who shot into the empty goal.

On the hour. Robert Paterson broke clear for Girvan but his shot was cleared.

With 18 minutes left, the points were secured when another mix-up in the defence allowed McKay to shoot into the net.

Five minutes from time Glencairn were awarded a penalty after a tackle by John Frame that saw the defender ordered off Fraser took the kick but shot high over the bar.
