GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 1

TROON 1

FORM team Troon are flying high in second spot after holding a Glens side who defeated them at Portland Park earlier in the season.

The Seasiders have now taken 10 points from their last four games and are flying high in second spot.

Manager Gordon Burns said afterwards: "We had chances to win the game, especially in the first half but we are on a good run of form and playing well."

Troon, on a high after the 4-0 demolition of Kilbirnie Ladeside seven days earlier, came out of the traps in determined fashion and opened the scoring in three minutes. Dale Moore broke down the right flank and after combining with Craig Harvey and Scott Chatham won a throw-in near the corner flag. Adam Forsyth gathered the throw at the bye-line and evaded two defenders before progressing along the line and firing for goal only for keeper Brian McGarrity to get a hand to it. However Forsyth pounced and stroked the ball home from the narrowest angles.

Home side protests that the ball had crossed the bye-line were waved away and the goal stood.

With their tails really up Troon went on to dominate in terms of chances. Indeed Forsyth could have had a hat-trick, if not for Ryan McChesney’s presence forcing him to fire wide from close range and then keeper Brian McGarrity pulling off a fantastic block.

Lucky to go in at the break only 1-0 down, Glens started the second half strongly and drew level within two minutes of the restart. Joe Andrew got the better of his shadow Chris McKnight in the aerial battle and his knock on was gathered in the box by John Paul Boyle who slipped between Gavin Collins and Martin Ure before lashing the ball from 15 yards. beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ally Semple and into the net.

The home side enjoyed much more possession in the second half and both sides created several chances the best of which was an exquisite trap and shot from Joe Andrew that pulled off a fine save from Semple.

But it ended deadlocked and Troon now look forward to a league clash away to newcomers Shettleston on Saturday.

The Scottish Cup defeat at Darvel has clearly spurred Troon on and with three wins and a draw from their last four games they are clearly the form team in the league.
