REMEMBER, REMEMBER, 25th of NOVEMBER
Help required at Space Place By Marc Roseblade
The voting to win this funding takes place on November 25, with phone lines open from 9am until midnight. There will also be a feature on STV news between 6pm and 6.30pm highlighting the centre and its opponent.
There can be no doubt that their opponent is a worthy cause but charity has to start at home and this project could help enhance the building and uses for it. Let's face it, how many places are there around for teenagers to go in the Prestwick and surrounding areas?
That's what makes this award all the more important, it'll provide a great music based venue for everyone to drop in and get involved. At the moment it's home to one of Ayrshire's most exciting and innovative music venues.
As well as playing host to regular band nights, The Space Place also stages charity gigs (Skalloween) and the massively popular SPIN (Space Place Indie Nite) Battle of the Bands competition.
The Space Place team also manage and co-ordinate larger scale events such as Outside at the Oval and WinterFest, it's summer and winter music festivals. With this funding they are looking to extend the facilities to include a recording studio and offer services which would include an in-house record label and promotions company.
The project would also enable the group to create a drop in cafe facility, within the community centre building that they currently own. This portable cafe will be based within the main hall, with adjacent rooms being used to deliver presentations and recreational activities, such as music lessons to young people using the cafe after school hours and at weekends. The cafe facility would also be open during school hours for use by the local community.
The number for voting isn't released until the day of voting but please tell your friends and family about it in preparation for the voting to start.
