Three buses are being run from the River Cottage Travel Club to the crunch match. Only one bus was originally planned but a fan gave an anonymous donation to run a second one and the Directors at the club agreed to match that to help run an additional coach with the cost only £3 a head for travel.

Victory would guarantee United survival and a draw would be enough should Stenhousemuir only defeat Brechin by two goals in their last game.

Blakeman was delighted with the weekend efforts as Ayr chalked up a first win in 10 games and said: “It was good to score two goals, both were a bit fortunate but I am just happy to take three points, it was a good scoreline.” He is optimistic of victory and added: “The win is the most important thing for us, especially getting four goals and keeping a clean sheet, which is something we have been working on in the last few weeks. If we play like we did today and as we have the past few weeks we can go to Forfar and take the three points we need to keep us in the leaque.

“Staying in this league would be a big thing considering the position were are in. The most important thing is what we do, we can’t think about other results. Hopefully if we stay up can push on next year and challenge at the other end of the table.” Manager Ian McCall was pleased with the win which he hopes will boost the players’ spirits and said: “The result was everything for us although I feel we didn’t play as well as we have been in recent games. It will give us confidence. Stirling are a decent team and made it hard for us, But we got the goals at the right time and in the second half we got two goals and could have scored more.

The boss is optimistic his team can secure the win which they need to assure survival and said: “The good thing that our destiny is in our own hands and we have to go to Forfar and look to win the game, I think we are capable of doing that. The pressure is on Forfar too because they need a victory to have a chance of the title. The fans have been brilliant all season and I’m sure we will have great backing again from them on Saturday.”
